Japanese Yum Yum Sauce

I love going to Japanese steak houses. It's a good time - watching them cook the food in front of you, the onion volcano, even catching shrimp in your mouth. All great.

But the real star of the show is when they place a big bowl of yum yum sauce in front of you. I swear I could eat it on anything and everything. After nailing my fried rice recipe, this was the next logical step!

We knew the basics ingredients, thanks to hubby's exceptional taste buds and culinary training. So it took a little digging into spices and figuring out what makes it a copycat Yum Yum sauce. Well... we nailed it. It might even be better. I know.

You can buy this kind of sauce at the grocery store, but this is way more affordable and is perfect if you can't leave the house (for example, if you are quarantined! haha). The best part is that you probably already have the ingredients in your fridge and pantry.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup mayonnaise (do not use low fat mayo or mayo substitute)

  • 1/4 cup water

  • 1 teaspoon ketchup

  • 1 tablespoon melted butter

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 tablespoon onion powder

  • 2 teaspoon sugar

  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika

  • Squeeze of Gochujang chili paste

1. In a bowl, mix all the ingredients together until thoroughly combined

2. Chill overnight or a few hours before serving

While this is perfect to drizzle over fried rice and use with your homemade Chinese-style recipe, you can use as a dip for literally anything. Put on burgers, use as a dip for pretzels, serve with any kind of protein, or have to use when you get carry out sushi (that's my favorite!).

Enjoy! Don't forget to tag me in your pictures if you decide to make it. I love seeing what y'all come up with!
