FALLing for Home Decor
As much as I hate to admit that Summer is almost over, I can't wait to break out the sweaters and drink PSLs (team Pumpkin Spice all the way). Fall will always be my favorite time of year - when I was little, it was soccer season. As I got older, it meant fall fests, corn mazes, football games, and bonfires. Now, it's all those things... and more.
Fall decor is quite possibly the coziest decor. It's like wrapping your whole house in a fuzzy blanket and drinking cider. Warm fall colors, the scent of potpourri, & cozy textures. What's not to love!?
Recently, I have started following some a-maize-ing women (see what I did there!) on Instagram whose fall home decor puts mine to shame. But they've inspired me to decorate and create a home that is welcoming and seasonal. Their feeds and Etsy stores are full of gorgeous signs, leaves, beautiful centerpieces, and jaw-dropping vignettes. I decided to put my creativity to the test and see what I could come up with.
1. Wooden box sign
Inspired by the lovely lady, Janis, over at Terra Cottage, I painted the pumpkin box sign. Her signs are much more polished and she has whole sets of mini signs and farmhouse beads to match, but considering I've taken some time off of painting, I didn't do half bad. Janis has an entire Instagram of gorgeous modern farmhouse decor and her Etsy store is just as fabulous.
2. Galvanized everything
Not until recently did I jump on the galvanized metal train. But a the brushed metal can really add a pop of texture and neutral color to a shelf or floor decor. I picked up this large galvanized tub from HomeGoods - my go-to decor store. To contract the harsh metal, I added a soft blanket and some pumpkins (all toddler-friendly!) to finalize the look. My other galvanized decor item is my fall flower pot. Grabbed this beauty on sale at Kirklands and it is the perfect touch to a fall shelf display. Feminine and very "fall." My other favorite fall decor item are galvanized signs like these by Jessie at Our Fixer Upper Farmhouse.
3. Fall Coffee Station
My Keurig is the center of kitchen... and life, if I'm being honest. Not a day goes by that I don't have at least 4 cups of ground goodness. But Keurings aren't the most stylish of kitchen supplies. My little coffee station is just starting out. The neutral gray tray is a good base for seasonal decor, and my white "Coffee" canister is as big as I could find ;) When we have company, I have cream and sugar set that gets displayed, but I drink my coffee black. So the rest of the tray can be pretty and decorated for each season.
4. Painted Pumpkins
The Target Dollar Spot... can I get a hallelujah! My favorite spot to grab cute holiday goodies and these pumpkins did not disappoint. They came in a pack of 4 - all painted with black and orange polka dots and bright colors. I used FolkArt Chalk Paint in Farmhouse White and Parisian Gray to cover the gaudy colors and neutralize them. It took 2 coats since the colors were so bold - but I am loving how they turned out. These little guys are perfect space fillers on shelves or anywhere that needs a little pumpkin love!
5. Fall-Inspired Shelves
Shelves are the only thing in my house that I constantly change. Getting them exactly the way I have pictured in my head is an never-ending game. I'm in LOVE with the whites-and-neutrals that are so stylish right now - and that fall decor isn't only in bright oranges and blacks. Some color here and there is great, but I have a hard time looking at obnoxiously bright colors and tacky Halloween decorations for too long. My fall flower arrangement was an inexpensive way to add a pop of color to my shelves - the flowers are from the dollar store! I used my Rae Dunn vase to hold the arrangement. My ceramic jack-o-lantern had to be included on my shelves: My great-grandmother made this for my 1st Halloween, and it has been displayed every fall since then. My shelves are strictly fall -September to November. I don't want to change them again until it's time to break out the Christmas decorations (only 100 more days!!!)
Fun fact: The white frame is a collage box with a hinged door. This staple on my shelf can be customized for any season or holiday using decorations inside or like this, with washable chalk pens!
Happy fall, y'all
Xoxo
