Unconventional Valentine's Day Gifts

If you (or your S/O) aren't that into traditional Valentine's Day gifts, then think outside the box and give them something that lets them know you really care about them.

We are not big on Valentine's Day at my house, but we celebrate each year with pizza, yummy dessert, and a good bottle of wine. And rarely do we celebrate on actual Valentine's Day because of hubby's work schedule. But it is special to us and one of my favorite traditions. Sometimes the little things have the most sentiment and thought behind them. The unconventional gifts can mean the most.

1. Breakfast in Bed

Mom works hard every day - so wake up 30 minutes early and make her favorite breakfast to bring her in bed. This little gesture will mean more than any box of chocolates, and having even 10 minutes to enjoy a hot cup of coffee and delicious breakfast will make her day (or week... or year, even!)

2. Subscription Box

Give the gift that keeps on giving! There are a ton of different subscription services you can buy, everything from wine delivery services to lifestyle boxes - varying in length of subscription - some just 3 months, some for a whole year. And every time a package comes in the mail, they'll think of you.

3. Homemade Coupons

Another gesture that is sure to win over any mom or dad (wife or husband!) are homemade coupon books filled with thoughtful gifts. Anything from a night off of cooking dinner to a romantic date night that can be cashed in any day, not just Valentine's Day. Remember, it's the thought that counts.

4. The Greatest Collection of Love Letters

For the man who can't quite put into words how much their book-loving, literary-nerd S/O means, let others do the talking. Volumes 1 & 2 of Love Letters Of Great Men are collections of the greatest love letters ever written, by some of the most famous men to have ever lived. (This is the book from Sex & the City - men, you'll earn bonus points if your lady is a fan)

5. Give them Green

Giving your S/O a plant for Valentine's Day may not seem romantic, but it can be something you take care of together and watch flourish and grow. take this play right out of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and any Rom-com lover will get a kick out of this. (hint - tackle to gift ideas in one - there are succulent subscription boxes!)

6. Microwavable Slippers

Warm their hearts by warming their feet this year. Perfect for the woman who is always putting her cold feet on her man's back in bed (guilty!). These fully microwavable slippers will remind them of you each time they put them on!

7. Home Brew Kit

Say cheers! to starting a new hobby you can do together. A home brew kit is a fun way to try something new with the one you love - hopefully you can agree on an IPA, Amber Ale, or a classic stout to begin this new endeavor!

8. Cooking Class Experience

Why go out for dinner when you can go out and make your dinner?! Not only will you learn something new together, but it's a fun way to connect and spend time together (other than sitting at a table and ordering the same steak and pasta dishes). Every city has their own cooking class experiences, but in Maryland, check out Schola for a fun, interactive, and delicious date night.

9. Ball Park Rocks Glasses

For the baseball fanatic, these are fun rocks glasses to add to their collection. The glasses have a map of the stadium and surrounding area of your favorite MLB team, with the team's logo on the bottom (a little surprise once their cocktail is finished!).
