6 Summer Makeup Must-Haves

I'm with ya - makeup in the summer can be a hassle. From finding the right shade to match your tan to getting your makeup to stay on through sweat and humidity, it is almost not worth it. For years, I stuck with basic mascara and bronzer in the summer for a simple, everyday look. The idea of makeup melting off my face in the Maryland humidity wasn't appealing.

For years, I only wore drugstore makeup and it was great - I would go through 4 different foundation shades a year! That can add up if you're using expensive makeup. But y'all. My skin's not getting any younger or smoother, so over the past year I've started taking into consideration what product I'm using on my skin and making sure it has some kind of SPF.

Maybe it's just me, but I have "seasonal makeup" that I keep in 2 separate makeup bags. One bag has my winter makeup with all my Tarte Cosmetic eyeshadow palettes, extra brushes, lighter foundations, blushes, concealers, and (the best EVER) illuminating primer to keep away dull winter skin. The other bag is a tad smaller - I only wear a few select tried-and-true makeup products in the summer that I adore.

1. Urban Decay De-Slick Matte Primer

3. E.L.F. Setting Spray

4. Urban Decay NAKED "Flushed" Contour Palette in Secco

6. Brushes by USpicy & E.L.F

Doing my makeup in the summer is a 5 minute routine, super simple, and super easy. I really love a natural "no makeup" look for everyday use, with the exception of special events like weddings or parties (then I'll break out some other fun goodies!). But if you're like me and get really tan in the summer, then you know it can be hard to find a foundation in the right shade or a bronzer that is dark enough, without having to get a shiny bronzer that makes you look sparkly (No need to look like an extra on the set of Twilight). Thankfully, I live 5 minutes away from Sephora and the girls there are always super helpful and full of good tips (like using the CoverFX enhancing and cover drops for more coverage and skin brightening).

Because this is my summer makeup, investing in good makeup usually lasts me 2 summers, making the cost of quality products a little easier to swallow. I have a hard time justifying buying a foundation for $40... but when it's made with all natural products, doesn't make my skin breakout, and is lightweight and good for my pores? I can usually suck it up. Remember, quality over quantity... and with high quality makeup, a little bit goes a long way.

If you need a good place to start to find good, clean, quality makeup, check out an Ulta or Sephora for some initial direction. The team of girls are always so helpful and can even show you how to apply makeup so your skin looks healthy and natural. Plus - don't forget to ask for samples of products! Try-before-you-buy is a great way to try a new product without worrying about wasting the money.

The best thing about these makeup brands is not only are they amazing quality, but they are highly pigmented without feeling heavy on your skin. And they come in an outrageous range of shades and undertones, making it a piece of cake to find a shade that matches your skin the best!
